Helium 10 vs what? The answer depends on which module is letting you down
Helium 10 is a suite and almost everything it gets compared against is a specialist. Compare module to product rather than suite to product, and normalise for the percentage of ad spend that both sides often charge. The right rival is then decided by which single job is failing.
What this looks like across the book we manage
The category error running through most of these comparisons
Type Helium 10 vs into a search box and the suggestions are a list of specialists: one research tool, one bid engine, one profit dashboard, one enterprise retail media platform. Almost every published comparison then lines up a subscription that contains fifteen tools against a product that does one thing, totals the monthly fees, and declares a winner.
That comparison cannot produce a useful answer, in either direction. Against a research tool, Helium 10 looks like better value because it also does keyword tracking, listing optimisation, refund claims and ad automation. Against a bid engine, it looks expensive because you are paying for fourteen tools you did not come for. Neither reading tells you anything about whether it will fix your problem.
The fix is to stop comparing companies and start comparing modules. Helium 10 is not one purchase; it is a bundle of roughly a dozen, and you are almost certainly evaluating one of them. Ask which module is failing you, isolate it, and compare that module against the specialist that replaces it. The rest of the suite is not part of the argument — it is either useful to you or it is shelfware, and you already know which.
Do that and a second thing becomes visible: the comparison you should be running is often not against another tool at all. Roughly half the people asking this question are not dissatisfied with a feature. They are dissatisfied with how much of their week the software still requires.
Normalise for the percentage before you compare anything
The single most useful fact in this category is one Helium 10 publishes itself, and most comparison articles omit: Diamond plan customers incur a 2% management fee on PPC spend managed through Helium 10 Ads. That sits alongside the listed subscription — $359 a month, or $279 billed annually, with Enterprise starting at $1,499 a month billed annually.
That fee is not a catch. It is how a large share of this market prices, and it is the number that makes a fair comparison possible, because most of the alternatives charge one too. Read on their own pages on 20 August 2026:
- Perpetua lists Essentials at $695 a month up to $10,000 of monthly ad spend, and Growth at $695 a month plus a percentage above that. The percentage is not printed.
- BidX publishes euro platform fees followed by a percentage of connected ad spend that the page does not quantify.
- SellerApp lists managed advertising from $300 plus 0.5% to 2.5% of Amazon ad spend.
- Pacvue and DataHawk quote after a call rather than publishing a list.
So the honest framing is not that one vendor charges a percentage and the others do not. It is that the category prices this way, and the variable is whether the rate is disclosed and whether it stops. Take your actual monthly ad spend, apply each vendor's rate to it, add the subscription, and compare those totals. On a serious budget the ranking usually reverses at least once, and the winner on headline price is rarely the winner on total cost. Then ask each of them for the ceiling. That question separates them faster than any feature list.
If the failing job is research and discovery
This is the comparison people run most and it is the one where Helium 10 is hardest to beat on raw capability. The database is deep, the keyword tooling is mature, and coverage extends past Amazon.
Where a rival wins is workflow rather than data. Jungle Scout is simpler to learn and gets a first-time seller to a decision faster, which is a genuine advantage if the person doing the research is not going to become a power user. Be aware that its own pricing renders in JavaScript and varies between reads, so price it at the checkout screen rather than from an article. Narrower research tools win on price when discovery is genuinely all you need.
The honest test: if you have not opened the research tools in a month, you are not comparing research products. You are paying a research subscription for an operations problem, and the comparison belongs in one of the next two sections.
If the failing job is running the ads at scale
Helium 10's ads module is competent, rules-driven work with bulk creation and dayparting, and for a single Amazon account it does the job. It starts to strain in three specific situations, and each one points at a different rival.
Many retailers, one console. Pacvue lists 100+ retailers across 30+ countries and is built as a commerce media operating system. If your media plan spans Amazon, Walmart, Instacart and Target, this is not a close comparison — buy the breadth.
Goal-based automation instead of rule maintenance. Perpetua asks you to state a strategic objective and lets its engine work toward it. If your rules have grown into a thicket that nobody dares edit, that is a genuinely different operating model and it suits teams with more strategy than operator time.
A person attached to the platform. BidX sells escalating tiers of human help on the same engine, with strategy calls included and exportable rule logs, which is worth more than it sounds when someone asks why a bid moved last month.
Two others deserve naming for specific strengths: Intentwise has moved decisively toward the data layer with Amazon Marketing Cloud tooling and an AI gateway, which suits teams whose answers live in AMC; SellerApp runs both software and a managed arm, priced in the same shape most of this category uses.
If the failing job is knowing what you actually made
A distinct group arrives at this comparison because the ad numbers look fine and the bank balance does not. That is not an advertising problem and no bid engine will solve it.
Dedicated profit tools reconstruct true net profit per SKU after fees, storage, returns, promotions and cost of goods, and they will usually beat a suite's built-in profit view because that is their entire product. DataHawk answers the same question at a different altitude, as a data layer feeding Snowflake, Power BI, Looker Studio and Sheets for a team that would rather query than click. It quotes custom pricing on annual plans.
Comparing Helium 10 against either of these on feature count misses the point. The question is whether you need profit truth for decision-making, or a pipeline your analyst can build on. They are different purchases and neither is an advertising product.
If the failing job is that nobody has the hours
This is the comparison that never appears in a roundup, because the alternative is not software.
Every product named above is something you operate. They differ in how much they help. None of them decide what your target should be, and none of them go looking for a problem they were not configured to watch for.
Here is what that costs in practice, across 47 brands rather than one. In Amazon search data from 1 May 2026 onward, 48.5% of all search spend — $4,962,963 of $10,243,379 — went to terms that returned zero orders, while 0.9% of 891,585 terms drove 80% of all sales. Nothing was misconfigured on any of those accounts. Each losing term was too small to trip a rule, and no tool in this comparison would have raised its hand.
Dr. PPC is autonomous Amazon ad management from Full Circle, a full-service Amazon management company with $500M+ in managed revenue across 100+ brands. Fable 5 reads the whole account, writes a strategy per product against its real economics, and proposes each change with the evidence behind it, a measurement plan and a rollback trigger. You set the autonomy level: propose only, act within limits, or act freely on approved categories.
The like-for-like against Helium 10 as software is Orbit — search-term and campaign profitability, ASIN-level margin, keyword and traffic tracking, plus BSR, buy box, price and fee trackers. Orbit comes with Dr. PPC rather than as a separate subscription. Dr. PPC is $300 a month plus 3% of ad spend, capped, month-to-month, first 30 days free — the same pricing shape the category uses, printed, and with a ceiling.
One redirect. If the ads are efficient and the leak is stockouts, storage and fee creep, Dr. Stock is the honest door instead, because bidding cannot rescue a SKU that runs out in November.
| The job that is failing | Compare Helium 10 against | Why that rival wins there |
|---|---|---|
| Product research and discovery | Jungle Scout, or a narrow research tool | Simpler workflow, or a lower price for one job |
| Ads across many retailers | Pacvue | 100+ retailers and 30+ countries in one console |
| Rule maintenance has become a burden | Perpetua | Goal-based automation instead of rule upkeep |
| Wanting a named human on the platform | BidX | Tiered human help, strategy calls, exportable logs |
| Answers that live in Amazon Marketing Cloud | Intentwise | AMC tooling and a data-layer product line |
| Knowing true profit per SKU | A dedicated profit tool, or DataHawk | Built for margin or for the data pipeline, not ads |
| Nobody has the hours | Dr. PPC | The decision is made, evidenced and reversible |
Which one you should actually pick
If you use four or more Helium 10 modules, the bundle is good value and the comparison you should run is module-level, not suite-level. Choose Pacvue for retailer breadth, Perpetua for goal-based automation, BidX for a human on the platform, Intentwise for AMC depth, a profit tool for margin truth. If the failing job is that nobody has the hours to decide, no tool on this list fills it.
Neither of these decides your ACoS on its own — how much of the work gets done each week does. Pull your search-term report for the last 90 days and total the spend against terms that produced no orders. Across the book above it runs at 48.5%. Pick the option that leaves someone actually working that list, whether that is you or us.
Common questions
Is Helium 10 worth it if I only use two or three tools?
Price the two or three against standalone replacements and include the ad spend percentage on both sides. Bundles win when you genuinely use four or more modules and lose badly when you use two. The commonest outcome we see is a subscription bought for research being kept for one keyword tracker.
Does Helium 10 charge a fee on ad spend?
Yes, and it says so on its own pricing page: Diamond customers incur a 2% management fee on PPC spend managed through Helium 10 Ads. It sits alongside the subscription rather than replacing it, and it is one of the few variable rates in this category that is published as a number.
How do I compare vendors that do not publish a price?
Ask for the fixed fee, the variable rate, the spend bands where the rate changes, whether there is a ceiling, and the notice period — then ask to be priced at double your current ad spend. Quote-based pricing is legitimate for enterprise deployments; it just means the comparison has to be built by you.
Can I run a fair thirty-day test between two platforms?
Only if you split by campaign rather than by week. Seasonality and inventory swings will swamp a before-and-after comparison over a single month. Give each tool exclusive ownership of comparable campaign sets, freeze everything else, and judge on contribution after fees rather than on ACOS alone.
What is the alternative that is not another tool?
Managed or autonomous management, where the decisions themselves are taken by someone accountable for them rather than surfaced for you to action. Judge it the same way you would judge software: ask what evidence sits behind each change, how it will be measured, and what condition reverses it.
Dr. PPC runs your Amazon ads daily — an AI agent doing the work, operators from a $500M+ Amazon team supervising. $300/mo + 3% of ad spend, published and capped, month-to-month. Orbit is included.
